“The Only” seafood sign was one of the most recognized neon signs. It was built in 1951 and was a part of DTES for 60 years. In 2009 it was taken down and I figured I’d only see it in a museum. Then last year Portland Housing Society purchased this building and hung it back up! Maybe another 60 years to go.

Me and my Pops. I see him once a year in Vegas and usually bring him a new t-shirt because he literally still wears shirts from 20 years ago. When he wore this shirt he said at least 2 groups of people stopped him and yelled “eastvan!” and told him they were from Surrey or Burnaby or somewhere else near EastVan.

Remember when the Sunrise Community turned into East Village overnight?

Well, some creatives are forming a cluster of artists to further represent the cultural mecca that is Eastvan. An open house is taking place June 1st in The Hamilton Building with 4 studios, 2 galleries, 4 openings, Storm Brewing, JJ Bean and an array of musicians.

The Welding Shop Western and Southern streets. And it looks like these buildings will stay industrial for some time. These buildings just off Main between terminal and E.2 will hopefully provide backdrops for Hollywood North and Photographers alike.
