KINGSTON!
Our friends at Village & Co. are collecting books to give to people in our hood.
Here’s what they have to say :
Celebrating the holidays involves a variety of activities – decorating your home, preparing meals, gathering with the family – but no matter what your traditions involve, storytelling is usually at the heart of it. With the holidays so deeply rooted in storytelling, we decided to share a love of this tradition with our community that continually inspires us – specifically, the KidSafe Writers’ Room and the Lakewood Neighbourhood Book Exchange.
For the twelve days of Christmas, we’re asking our fans and followers to tell us their favourite kids’ reads on Facebook and on Twitter using the hashtag #villagereads. Each day, we’ll select the top book to stock both the Lakewood Book Exchange and the KidSafe Writers Room. Everyone enjoys a good story, so share in our new tradition and help us give back to our community this holiday season.

New Die Antwoord. Word has it that they’re coming back to Vancouver in February.
So after their viral video got them a contract with Interscope Records, Die Antwoord has parted ways citing “Fok Julle Naaiers (Fuck You All)” for trying to turn them into a pop act.

Holy Vladmir! I almost forgot how shit-kicking awesome Burger King is.
Vancouver produces a lot (and i mean ALOT) of rappers both talented and not. That’s why it’s always refreshing to see some new cats repping and having a kick-ass time doin’ it. Gridlocked and featured guest, Cadence, keep it well documented with tonnes of photos and battle footage in this laid-back, summer-inspired vid directed by Drew Hutchinson and Richard Neufeld. Track produced by White Peaks.

It was lunch time and there were far too many people at Sha Lin Noodle. If you get there right when they open at 11:30am, then you’re guaranteed a seat. If it’s 12:00pm, then you’re too late. So I went down to Pho Kim Penh Xe Lua for a quick bite but it was too quick a bite. They rushed me in, fed me a large bowl of pho dac biet, and rushed me out. I was literally done in 10 minutes and my gullet was far from satisfied.
So in search of some extra carbs, I decided to stroll slightly further east on Broadway to Zako’s Deli. I love smoked meat and I love poutine so, one and one make, uh, a bigger one. One small poutine topped with meat please. As I ordered, two Chinese men were just leaving so I glanced over at what they had. Smoked meat sandwiches. Cool. Except that they didn’t even touch their pickles. Not cool. I felt like yelling over to them. But then I was distracted by the little Japanese girl that was trying to put together my order directed from the Iranian (?) owner. Where the fuck was I?
Anyways, I got the poutine to go and it was merely served on a paper tray with a piece of wax paper on it, stuffed into a paper bag. Janky class. I ate it outside in the cold sun and enjoyed it very muchly. The gravy wasn’t too salty as I believe that it was a vegetarian gravy but the fries and chunky meat made up for it. I think I’ll come back for a full-on sandwich. With extra pickles, of course.
