Gastown

Gassy Jack.

Gastown on wiki

“Gastown was Vancouver’s first downtown core and is named after “Gassy” Jack Deighton, a Yorkshire seaman, steamboat captain and barkeep who arrived in 1867 to open the area’s first saloon.”

The Funk Hunters x BEATROUTE x Welcome To Eastvan

Check out the Funk Hunters repping the hood in the latest BEATROUTE issue.

Something that was fun and funky. #eastvan #thefunkhunters #beatroute

“For people living in B.C., the name Funk Hunters has become synonymous with summer festivals, fun times and an encyclopaedic approach to remixes. This fall the duo, comprised of Duncan Smith and Nick Middleton, will take their high energy DJ set across Western Canada and as far east as Winnipeg. Taking the backbone of funk and breaks, and adding layers of samples from the worlds of classic rock, hip-hop and beyond, The Funk Hunters have been honing their unique sound since the pair met in Duncan’s hometown of Galiano Island, B.C.

“I wasn’t able to find anything outside of mainstream music at that time ’cause there were no record stores (on Galiano) and I wasn’t too savvy on the Internet,” Duncan explained. “So I got introduced to this whole other world of music and then we bought some CDJs and basically started DJing parties on the island every weekend, and we’d load our gear onto beaches for, like, 40 people and just party ’til the sun came up.””

Peanut Butter x Bacon Sandwich

So there was this one episode of Roseanne that I saw last week that had a very pregnant Rosey building a whole platters worth of Peanut Butter x Bacon sandwiches. As a fan of both ingredients, it only made the utmost sense that I’d try to recreate what I saw on TV.

PBB2

Here’s what happened:

Okay, so the sandwich is assembled and I take the first bite. Hmm, not very overwhelming, I taste the bacon more than the PB. Pretty salty. Slight crunch. I take the second bite. Yup, there’s the PB. It’s working. It’s a little sweet now. Couple more bites. The bacon’s moving around a bit. The PB is greasier now. Yeah, it’s tasting real greasy. Alright, half way through and I’m thinking about BLTs. Mmm, cool lettuce, sweet tomato and creamy mayo. Should I salvage the bacon outta this and make a BLT? Ah, fuck it, the bacon’s all covered with PB. I’ll just finish it. It’s not that bad actually. The bread’s soaking up most of that grease. It’s surprisingly clean too, no drips so far. Last bite is real bacon-y. I’m really thirsty now. I think I made a mistake. For some reason, I feel really sad. I’m gonna lay down for a sec.

So, in retrospect, the sandwich didn’t turn out as delicious as Roseanne made it out to be. Bacon IS awesome but this shouldn’t be a way to eat it. I seriously spent the following 2 hours with very blurry vision in my left eye. Was there a direct correlation? I ain’t no science man, but I’m not gonna eat that sandwich again to find out.
