Mondo is a company based on designing traditional hand-drawn movie posters. Along with many artists, founder Tim Leagues of Alamo Drafthouse has regenerated an art form thought long lost. The company is now getting serious attention with their designs being archived in Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Here are some of my favourites which I think are suitable for the season:

The East Van is at it again.
This time using it’s wheels to deliver some much needed resources for the infrastructure of Occupy Vancouver down at the VAG.
Here’s what Occupy Vancouver states on their site:
WHAT IS OCCUPY VANCOUVER?
Occupy Vancouver – A Non Violent Movement for Social, Economic and Political Change
We, the Ninety-Nine Percent, come together with our diverse experiences to transform the unequal, unfair, and growing disparity in the distribution of power and wealth in our city and around the globe. We challenge corporate greed, corruption, and the collusion between corporate power and government. We oppose systemic inequality, militarization, environmental destruction, and the erosion of civil liberties and human rights. We seek economic security, genuine equality, and the protection of the environment for all.
We are inspired and in solidarity with global movements including those across the Middle East, Europe, and the Occupy Wall Street / Occupy Together movement in over 1000 cities in North America. Injustice anywhere is injustice everywhere.
We humbly acknowledge that Occupy Vancouver is taking place on unceded Coast Salish territories.
We are committed to an inclusive and welcoming space, to addressing issues of oppression and discrimination, and to creating an environment where all the 99% can be heard and can meaningfully participate. We are also committed to safeguarding our collective well-being – including safety from interpersonal violence and any potential police violence.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a working statement that we know will evolve as #OccupyVancouver grows and flourishes. Our demands and our dreams are not limited to this statement as we have many ideas and solutions. As stated by #OccupyTogether, no one group, person, or website could ever speak for this diverse gathering of individuals. However, the General Assembly on October 8th reached consensus to accept these broad principles as a starting point and there will be further discussion on October 15th at 10 am at the General Assembly at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

On November 19, 2011 Vancouver residents will vote for 1 Mayor, 10 Councillors, 7 Park Commissioners and 9 School Trustees in the municipal election.
If we don’t vote, those in power have no reason to care about our issues or us. Voting won’t change things overnight — but it is a tool. It’s one way to make the world more like the place you want it to be.

Welcome To Eastvan recently released a collaboration t-shirt with Vision & Cause+Affect.
(This doesn’t reflect our voting status, we’re voting for Chains)

A little while back, my girlfriend and I noticed that a No Frills Supermarket had moved into the old Office Depot complex at 310 West Broadway. We went inside and marveled at the low, low prices. Later, I wondered whether they were actually the lowest price in the city so I took my receipt and headed for 2 major Eastvan supermarkets to do a price comparison. Some products were not available at the other locations so I looked for the cheapest equivalents as substitutes. Here’s what I found:

Well, there you have it, No Frills still wins hands down. The kicker? No Frills is owned by Loblaw Companies Limited which is also parent to The Real Canadian Superstore, SuperValue, T&T Supermarket and over 1,400 more all across Canada. Their primary in-store brand is President’s Choice which is available at all three of these locations in some capacity or another.
On the plus side, a No Frills has since opened in Eastvan at 4508 Fraser Street!

This year, in preparation for Movember, I am giving myself a 2 week head start to grow what will probably be a disappointing mustache. We all know an 11 year old East Indian boy can grow a finer lip caterpillar than me, a Vietnamese man. Just ask anybody in Vancouver and they’ll tell you Asian brothers have a hella hard time pushing mouth sprouts. So after one week, I’d like to show you some variations of my nose pubes.
Okay, I’ll stop embarrassing myself. The closest I’m getting is the Genghis Khan. Give it a few more weeks and I’ll have a Fu Manchu to show y’all.
Got an awesome Mo’ goin’ on? Submit your pics to bizoid@welcometoeastvan.com with “Movember” in the subject line and show EASTVAN your ‘stache!
PS. Sorry ladies.
[UPDATE 5 - LAST WEEK]

*well, as Movember comes to an end, I’m left with this fine and feathery moustache that has been the centre of both curiosity and jokes. Thank you to @aisly who encouraged me to sprout in the first place and who will hopefully be okay with it sticking around for a lil while longer. I’m also very proud of the countless organizations in Vancouver who all raised staggering amounts for the cause.
**for real tho, not a bad fu-man-chu eh?

Pick one, thick one son with small titties
Today, we present another amazing photo-composition by laniwurm showing “police attacking an unemployed demonstration in 1932 in front of City Hall (now Tellier Towers). The cops on white horses are BC Provincial Police. The recently closed Only Cafe is in the centre building, which is visually dominated by the “Don’t Argue” sign of one of Con Jones’s billiard halls next door.”
I saw this and my jaw just hit the floor. This really looks like so much fun. I mean, just watch the video and look at everybody’s reaction! The next big Christmas toy? This! Visit www.airswimmers.com.
