The homie StevieG piqued my curiosity when he was bragging about all the HD channels he was getting for free. With the help of the interwebs, I learned that HD channels are being broadcast over the air (OTA) just like the channels of yesteryear. I also learned that most newer TVs (read: flat screens) have digital tuners built-in to scan for these HD channels. The result? By building a simple antenna for less than $5, I now have unlimited access to 7 HD channels broadcasting uncompressed (ie. higher quality than Shaw) from Mt. Seymour into my living room.
Here’s how I did it:

I bought the screws and washers bulk at Home Depot. Like $3 sumthin. I bought the uhf/vhf transformer from Dollarland at Kingsgate Mall. $1.39 plus tax. I found the piece of 2×4 at work and the 6 cloth hangers unused in my closet. Stickers at Sharks And Hammers yo. I used some pliers with wire cutters to cut the hangers. You’ll need a measuring tape too dunny.

Put sets of screws into the wood at roughly 5 3/4″ apart. There will also be a set of screws in the middle to connect the transformer. The 14″ lengths of cloth hangers need to bend into a ‘v’ with roughly a 3 1/2″ space between ends. Everything is screwed into place as per the highlighted area…
Actually, you know what? After all this stupid photoshopping and shit, I just realized that I’m doing a terrible job at explaining this. Just watch the vid like I did, he does a better job:
Trust me, it works. I receive CBC, CBC-French, CTV, CTV-2, OMNI, CityTV and GlobalTV all in glorious HD and all for FREE!
In the end tho, I was just tired of watching hockey with rabbit ears. I don’t know anyone who watches “The X-Factor” or “CSI.”
Thanks for this!!!
