El Carnaval Del Sol/ Sunday June 26th

Taken from LatinVancouver.ca

A brief background of our wonderful artist shining in EL CARNAVAL DEL SOL

The Carnival Band with its magic, spontaneity and color will open El Carnaval del sol.
The Carnival Band is a community music project with ten years of history, based out of Commercial Drive’s Britannia Community Centre. Musical direction is provided by Ross Barrett and Tim Sars. Instrumentation for the band includes all range of brass, woodwinds, drums, percussion, accordions, and of course voice. Stage shows also allow us the opportunity to join our bass, guitar, fiddle, banjo, piano, and keyboard playing friends.
The Carnival Band believes that community music is grounded in collaboration, with the aim of empowering the individuals involved. Songs and performances are a means to creative expression and community cohesiveness, rather than an end in themselves.

Axe Capoeria: Today, as Canada’s first academy of Capoeira, the group continues to rise as one of the world’s leading Capoeira organizations. Backed by worldwide releases of ten albums of Capoeira music on CD, several VHS and DVD performance videos and the four Volume Capoeira Instructional DVD compilation, enrollment continues to steadily increase with over 10,000 students from all over the world.
The group travels around the world and participates in competitions; one of which was the prestigious International Capoeira Competition in Argentina. Furthermore, Grupo Axé Capoeira is renowned as a traveling group which promotes the history, music, art, and culture of Brazil in interactive and educational demonstrations.

Grupo MAQUILISHUAT A folkloric music Group from El Salvador will bring what has been preserved by generations and show us their earthy rhythms and dances

Go Skateboarding Day 2011 Vancouver

taken from here

Skateparks

Find the Welcome To Eastvan Skatepark t-shirt online here or come on down to Sharks and Hammers.

In true hobo/train hopping fashion, skaters will ‘ride the rails’ together hitting a multitude of spots the GVRD has to offer starting at 12pm at the Skate Plaza and ending with an evening session at Strathcona Park and BBQ at 6pm.

You can follow the days events via http://www.twitter.com/colormag where we’ll be posting updates. We wont be staying at spots long enough for any sessions to be busted up so the best way to keep up with where to meet us is with your cellphone and on twitter.com/colormag.

If you’re from the Lower Mainland and know of any good skate spots at or near train stops, please email info@colormagaizne.ca and include ALL ABOARD in the subject.
