Chin Injeti x Exclaim x Welcome To Eastvan

Chin Injeti

BC bassist and producer Chin Injeti speaks like he plays: concisely and efficiently, with just a little bit of flair. His sanguine and insistent funk language has been in increasing demand by the likes of Dr. Dre, Drake, Jay-Z, the Clipse and Eminem for a string of best-selling albums. It’s taken the former leader of ’90s MuchMusic staples Bass is Base more than 20 years to refine his personal blend of musical chops with the minimal sonics of hip-hop, but these days he’s going from strength to strength, following his Grammy win for his work on Eminem’s Recovery.

The two sides of his musical personality intertwined early. “I started to play when I was in high school,” Injeti recalls. “I grew up listening to a lot of prog rock; Rush and Yes. My brother got into DJing and he introduced me to reggae, which introduced me to everything else. It all changed. Rock was still a jumping point, but rap was the thing that really defined me. My biggest influences were DJs, not musicians.”

Before Bass is Base, Injeti was well known around Toronto as an after-hours party promoter, soaking up the sounds of some of the most influential DJs in the city’s history. “[Toronto hip-hop radio host/scene builder] Johnbronski and [soul/funk/reggae/house DJ] Paul E Lopes are my biggest influences to this day,” he enthuses. “They literally taught me everything I know. Those guys taught me how to listen more than play. A lot of people work on technique and speed and dexterity but you don’t get more musical that way. Almost without knowing it these guys were priming me to listen to music as a producer rather than a player.”

Graphic Designer Opportunity- Celebration of Light

The Celebration of Light is the largest offshore fireworks competition in the world, and 2011 marks the 21st anniversary of this free, family, fun event. This legendary event is quickly approaching as the days grow longer and the nights become warmer.
To celebrate the start of the 3rd Decade of this event, a special contest has been added to the festival to allow the community to get involved, and demonstrate their love and support for the summer event that brings people together; this contest is a t-shirt design challenge.

The T-shirt Design Contest
This contest encourages anyone who has a love for design to show their support for the Celebration of Light and create a t-shirt that will be sold publicly and worn by thousands of Fireworks Supporters at the 2011 event.
Contestants must submit a photo (in high resolution .jpg format) of their t-shirt design by 5:00PM Friday April, 22 to fireworks@brandlivegroup.com, or mail a full colour hard copy to 165-1020 Mainland Street, Vancouver, BC. V6B 2T5.

The Design Requirements
• Full colour
• Two-sided content (front and back of the shirt)
• Appropriate for black and white t-shirts, as that is what the design will be printed on
• Embodies the spirit of the free, family, fun event
• No profanity or inappropriate images

Why Compete?
This contest is an excellent way for designers to have their name recognized and their design seen by over 1 million people over the 3 nights of the fireworks.
The winning design will be unveiled on Monday May 2, and t-shirts will be available for public sale through the Celebration of Light website (www.vancouverfireworks.ca).
Winners will receive four free reserved bleacher seats to get the best view of the fireworks in the city. The winner will also have the opportunity to meet the contest judges for a lunch, to get to know Vancouver’s elite fashion and design leaders. These judges will be revealed in the up coming weeks.

This design will become the official Celebration of Light merchandise piece for 2011 with all proceeds from the sale of these shirts going to support the Vancouver Fireworks Festival Society.
Without the incredible support that is shown by the community every year, the Celebration of Light would not stay alive. Get involved and show your love for the fireworks so memories can continue to be made.

For any further questions please contact us at MNoble@brandlivegroup.com.

*Please note the winning design submission becomes the property of the Vancouver Fireworks Festival Society, with recognition given to the designer.
