Eastvan History: Living at 112 Years Old

As of January 27th, 2011, Sum Ying Fung is now the oldest living Canadian and she resides right here in East Vancouver!

Aaliyah said it best when she sang about age being “nuthin but a number,” but consider this:

Fung was born in 1899, the same year as Fred Astaire, Ernest Hemingway, and Alfred Hitchcock, and has outlived all of them to use Skype on her iPhone!

Brain, consider yourself blown.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR by e.d.g.e.

The internet world was all a flutter yesterday when DJ Premier let loose the instrumental that he constructed specifically for Kanye West (which he rejected) to use on “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.”

I figured every rapper this side of the world would hop on the beat and ride it to “Kanye screwed up” fame.

Well, the first and so far only rapper to do so is e.d.g.e. himself.

ALL SLOW LIKE by June Howard

Real world work has been just ‘tarded lately so it was nice to get home and find something new and quite fresh in my inbox. Apparently the Inglewood, California native came up to Vancouver awhile back and recorded this track with local producer, Makemdef. What came out was all slow like…

Heh, see how I worked the title into a sentence?

Anyways, dude is quite nice and will have me checkin’ for more. His album, June Howard Vs. The World is coming Summer 2011.

Monster Innards: Gamera

Saw this over at ComicsAlliance.com. I just had to repost.

I always enjoyed biology back in high school. My lab partner was always too pussy to touch the goo but I dove right into the earthworm, cow eye and squid.

In retrospect, the first two were pretty fuct when you think about it. Or rather, see it. But the squid dissection will stay with me forever. No only did we take the guy apart and label all of its bits, we then signed our name with its ink and proceeded to batter and deep fry the the remains as instructed by our Korean professor!

Anyways, tasty memories aside, check out these Japanese biological illustrations from the 70′s featuring your favourite monsters. We don’t know what’s inside Godzilla yet as he remains illusive.

The site of origin, PinkTentacle, also translated some of the text. About Gamera:

Gamera’s features include infrared eyes with night vision, arms that can lift 50,000 tons, an organ for producing the flames he shoots from his hands, electrical spikes on his back, poison claws, sac-like organs for storing lava, coal, oil and uranium, balloon-like organs that blast jets of air out through the feet, and a tail of elastic cartilage that can deliver a powerful punch.

Big Moves Presents: Jay O Smooth

You know what the great thing is about Canadian rap music?

This.

artworks-000004421149-la9776-original

I’ve met this dude at a Josh Martinez video shoot a few years back. I shook his hand one other time. Don’t know the guy and defly didn’t know he rapped even tho he shows up on a lot of Low Pressure releases. Regardless, this album is awesome in that its funny and insulting at the same time. Two things that Nova Scotians hold in such high fashion.

Stream HERE or download the whole thing for free HERE. Serious, that first looped sample made me feel like Crazy Eyez Killah.

Thanks to DJ Moves for the link!
