Stephen Gammell is one of my favorite illustrators. His trade is children’s books and in 1981, he worked on bringing to life a collection of horror stories by Alvin Schwartz. These stories are quite disliked by the American Library Association because of the incessant religious violence and occult horror. I, on the other hand, say more please!
Stephen Gammell on his early inklings to draw:
“I was four at the time thinking that I really didn’t want to go to school next year…I just want to do THIS,” said Gammell. “Just scare other children so bad it gives them nightmares for the rest of their lives.”
Cue Vincent Price laugh.
Last spring, E.D.G.E. released a 6-track, self-produced EP called Regularly Scheduled Program that was sponsored by KevinNottingham.com and released by Jellyfish Recordings. Then, producer, Galaxaburn, got a hold of the acappellas and remixed the fuck out of them. The result is now available for download:

It really only took the first single, Cake Mix, for me to take notice of Hot Sex And High Finance, a duo comprising of lyricist POPSICLE PETE and beatsmith SKRYPT. Nearly a year later, they dropped their second track, Push It, and I was reminded of how I needed their album to drop. Another month after that and the album is finally here. Check it:
1.Fine Dining
2. Patrick Bateman
3. Cake Mix
4. Death Star
5. See Through Dance Floor
6. Black Gretzky
7. Platinum Handshake
8. Hybrid Eyes
9. Push It
10. The Suite
I’d say this album is very progressive especially for a rap album coming out of Vancouver. Popsicle Pete ups his lyrics game even higher than his Triforce Omega days and Skrypt defly brings a ghastly and futuristic soundscape.

My flatmate, Andrew, is a graphic design student at Arts Institute.
Being a student doesn’t stop him from holding it down in the outside design world.
Here is his latest piece of work. An album cover he designed for Matisyahu.
While I applaud the National Post Ampersand for bringing Hip-Hop into the spotlight, I am very suspect of this list. Mostly because I don’t agree with all the entries. Like why they gotta split the 7th position between Sauks and Maestro. Or why there ain’t any Westcoast representation when I would for sure throw in some Vancity subs. But that’s just my opinion. Anyways, I agree that Shad is the shit and he deserves the attention that he’s getting.
So here it is:
10. Michee Mee
9. D-Sisive
8. Buck 65
7. Saukrates / Maestro
6. Classified
5. K’Naan
4. Drake
3. k-os
2. Kardinal Offishall
1. Shad

I guess I can say that I’ve never really checked out MC Eternia. And for that, I am ashamed. Cause I can defly fuck with this.
Her album with producer MoSS is apparently doing very well with Exclaim! calling her “Canada’s Dopest Female MC!”
You can get her shit on iTunes.
