Uncle FATIH's

It’s a gross night. The storm rolled in and its been soaking since sun down. I stopped by my mom’s to see what was wrong with Windows Vista on her laptop…everything, apparently. Frustrated, I left and headed down Broadway, back towards the DTES. Home. Dry. Warmth. But first. Pizza.

Fuck yes.

Broadway and Commercial. This IS east van. Pizza by the slice at its very best. One of my favorite “fast food” joints when I lived off the Drive but now a treat when I’m nearby.

It’s real simple. 2 slices and a pop for $4. I think. Forgot to check my change when I grabbed double that. They’ve got a nice thin crust sprinkled with sesame seeds and some nice toppings. The usual plus a pesto pizza, a mushroom and peppers pizza and the famous roast potato pizza. Very veggie friendly. Also at your disposal, hot sauce, red pepper flakes and blue cheese outta squirt bottle. That ain’t my steez tho. Blue cheese is like liquid toe jam.

Open 10:30am to 2pm during the week. Til 3am on the Friday and Saturday. 1pm on Sunday. Also opening up on Denman St. due to popular demand. Rumour has it near UBC too.

I once saw a dude drop both slices on his way out, topping side down, onto the sidewalk. He proceeded to pick it up and eat it. Yep, it’s pretty good pizza. Also, I hate how people call it ‘zza. Fucking lazy fucks.

Kensington Skate Park

Photobucket

Good news: eastvan is getting a new skatepark! Due to open this summer, the Kensington skatepark is going to be a small community hub for an area seriously lacking in any real spots to ride. Bound to be full of kids this summer, its going to be similar to the Strathcona park in size and layout. Its a great location next to the community centre with a killer view of downtown and the mountains. In a safe, quiet neighborhood, it will be one of the best places for youngsters to practice their kickflips while the picturesque backdrop will surely bring out some vets and their cameras. Being 10 minutes from Trout Lake, be certain you will see me there with my bmx on a sunny day.

Peace
